About cutlistlab and the maker
cutlistlab is made by someone who cuts his own sheets. Not a company with a sales goal behind the scenes, but a tool I built because I needed it myself.
Why I build cutlistlab
I build with sheet goods myself: cabinets, a worktop, a media unit, a wall of shelves, and a full outdoor kitchen with custom timber cabinets. And every time I ran into the same thing. How do I lay out my parts so I waste as little plywood or MDF as possible? How many sheets do I actually need to buy? And in what order do I cut, so it works out and does not cost more than it should?
The existing tools only half helped. Most of them cap you after a few calculations, hide the useful parts behind a paywall, or do not fit how people really work, including the common case of having your sheets cut at the store with a limited number of cuts. So I made the tool I wanted to use myself, and cutlistlab grew out of that. Zaaglab is the same tool for the Dutch market.
What cutlistlab stands for
- Retailer-neutral. cutlistlab does not sell wood and is tied to no store. You get the most economical cutting plan, not the one that suits a shop best.
- Free, with no barrier. You start right away, with no account and no install. No daily limit, no paywall halfway through your project.
- Optional sign-in to sync. Want to save your projects and offcut stock and see them on your phone, tablet and computer? Sign in with a free account. You do not have to, but you can, so your work follows you across devices.
- Your work stays yours. The calculation runs in your own browser. Without an account everything stays on your device; nothing has to leave it.
- Made for the bench. Mobile-first, so you keep the plan next to you where you cut, not just at your desk.
- Built around real building. With a cabinet helper, offcut tracking and a numbered cutting order for the store's saw service, matching how people actually work.
