Drag, rotate or lock a piece yourself, and let the tool calculate around it.

Selecting a piece

Tap or click a piece in the plan to select it. Controls for rotating and locking appear next to it. Manual editing needs no separate switch.

On a phone, tap the piece to select it first. Then drag it; swiping over an unselected piece still scrolls the page.

What you can do with a piece

Click a piece in the plan. A small menu appears with what you can do with it.

Rotate: Rotate the piece a quarter turn. With a fixed grain direction this is not possible: Can't rotate: this part's grain direction is fixed.
Lock: This piece stays where it is. From now on the tool calculates all other pieces around it. That lets you force one thing without having to place the rest yourself.
Unlock: Release the lock, so the piece joins in normally again.
Unlock all: At the message about locked pieces, Fix previews Unlock all. You see the sheets needed before Apply releases every piece. Cancel changes nothing; Undo restores the locks and Redo reapplies the change. Handy before you run a thorough search, because that re-packs everything freely.
Grain: Change the grain direction of this one piece, without going to the list.

Dragging works too: pick up a piece and drop it in another spot or on another sheet. If that is impossible, the tool says why, for instance This part does not fit on this sheet. or No room for this part on this sheet.. Drag it to a sheet of a different material and you hear that too: This part belongs to Plywood (birch); drag it onto a sheet of that material.

Back to automatic

Two buttons appear above the plan as soon as you change something: ↶ Undo undoes your last step, and Back to automatic throws away everything you did by hand and lets the tool lay out again.

Tip In the cutting plan you do this with the buttons, not the keyboard: Cmd or Ctrl + Z does not work here. In the cabinet designer it does. See Keyboard shortcuts.

When you change something after editing

If you locked pieces and then change a size, the tool does not simply throw your work away. You get the message You changed something. This cutting plan is not updated yet. with Go to the cause and Fix. Review the effect of recalculating before choosing Apply.

When your edit changes the sheets needed, the comparison shows the calculated differences. Fix compares New sheets with Keep my sheets when that choice also places the parts. Each choice has its own effect and Apply. Cancel closes without a change. Undo restores the applied proposal; Redo applies it again.

Note If you already bought your sheets, choose Keep my sheets. A leaner plan does not help you when it asks for a sheet you do not have in the car.
