Chapter 26

Storage and privacy

Where your work lives, when it can disappear, and how to make a copy of it.

Where your work lives

Without an account everything sits in your browser storage, on this device. Not on a server, not with us. That is pleasant for your privacy and it is why the tool works without registration.

It also means: your projects are not on your phone if you made them on your laptop, and vice versa. If you want that, create an account. See Account and syncing.

When your work can disappear

Note This is the honest story, and it is the main reason to export now and then.
  • You clear your browser data (cookies and site data). Then everything is gone, without warning.
  • You work in a private window. Nothing is kept there once you close the window.
  • Your browser cleans up by itself because storage is full. Then you see Not saved in the bar.
  • You use a different browser or another device. Then it simply is not there; it never left, it was never there.

Making a copy

There are two ways, and they do not exclude each other.

  1. A file. Export project file under Export gives you one file containing the whole project: parts, sheets, settings and your cabinet design. Put it where your backups live. You read it back with Load project; you then get Project imported.
  2. An account. Then your projects and offcut stock also sit on the server, and follow you across devices.

If a file is damaged or from another program, the tool says so: Could not load this file: not a valid project file (JSON).

What we do and do not see

Without an account no project data reaches us at all. Your dimensions, your cabinet design and your offcut stock stay on your own device.

With an account your projects live on the server, because otherwise they could not follow you across devices. To get rid of them there is Delete account and data: Your account and all projects on the server will be permanently deleted. Your projects on this device remain stored locally. Continue?

The sheet material library fetches its data from us, but sends nothing about your project along. And we are retailer-neutral: We are retailer-neutral: no partnership, sponsorship or commission. We show stores only to help you choose; you buy wherever you like.
